Dallas has put a lot of time into the DART transportation system to make commuters more aware of how to get from point A to point B using a combination of the DART rail and DART buses.
Public transportation while studying abroad
An international traveler can catch the DART Orange line from the International Airport to bring them into the city to make a transfer to another line or bus route. The DART stations are clean and easy to use. You can either buy your tickets on your smartphone or purchase a ticket from the machine at the station. Most stations are not staffed but staff and security will come around to ensure everything is operating as usual. The DART website is translated into Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and Vietnamese which will benefit our English language learners in Dallas.
Uber is teaming up with Lime to add electric scooters to its app
If public transportation doesn’t reach your destination in Dallas, you can catch an Uber. The smooth and convenient use of Uber is almost too good to be true. Download the app on your smartphone, enter your credit card and you are good to go. The app is simple to use. You can track your driver the whole way to your location. After the trip, you can leave a tip if you don’t have cash on you.
A newer addition to the city of Dallas, but currently uncertain of its popularity, is the bike sharing option. Individuals can download an app called LimeBike and look for a nearby available bike. It costs $1.00 to unlock the bike and then 15 cents per minute to ride. This might be a great option if you are riding around a lake, on campus, or in a recreation type area. This may not be the most reliable option as bikes are located by GPS and may not be in your current area.
